Giuçiana Bruno Bio
GIULIANA BRUNO é Emmet Blakeney Gleason Professora de Estudos Visuais e Ambientais da Universidade de Harvard. A Professora Bruno é conhecida pela sua pesquisa em torno das interseções das artes visuais, arquitetura, cinema e media. O seu novo livro, “Superfície: Matérias de Estética, Materialidade e Media”, publicado pela University of Chicago Press, em 2014, será traduzido em chinês.
O seu livro seminal “Atlas da Emoção: Viagens pela Arte, Arquitetura e Cinema” (Verso, 2002) ganhou em 2004 o prémio Kraszna-Krausz Book Award de “melhor livro do mundo sobre a imagem em movimento”, e foi nomeado como “Livro do Ano de 2003” pelo Guardian. O seu livro mais recente, “Intimidade Pública: Arquitetura e Artes Visuais”, publicado pela MIT Press em 2007, foi traduzido na Europa e na Ásia.
Por “Um passeio ao longo de um mapa em ruínas” (Princeton University Press, 1993), uma viagem através da modernidade e da memória cultural, ganhou o prémio anual da Sociedade de Cinema e Estudos dos Media para melhor livro de estudos em cinema.
A Professora Bruno contribuiu para inúmeras monografias sobre arte contemporânea, incluindo Isaac Julien para o Museu de Arte Moderna (2013), Jane e Louise Wilson (2004), Chantal Akerman (MHKA, 2012), Jesper “Para Bienal de Veneza 2013” (e MAC / VAL, 2012), e catálogos de exposições do Museu Reina Sofia e o Museu Solomon R. Guggenheim.
Escreve com frequência sobre arte e arquitetura para livros internacionais, como “Cidades Automáticas: O Imaginário Arquitetónico na Arte Contemporânea” (Museu de Arte Contemporânea, San Diego, 2009), “Espaço” (Museu MAXXI para as Artes de Séc. XXI, Roma, 2010), e “Ruínas” (MIT Press e Whitechapel Gallery, 2011). Professora Bruno dá palestras em universidades e museus a nível internacional, incluindo, recentemente, a Academia de Ciências Sociais de Xangai, o Museu Judaico de Berlim, o Centro de Dia para as Artes, o Museu de Arte Moderna, o Tate Modern e o Museu do Louvre.
É também uma figura de destaque em “Cultura Visual: Entrevistas com Principais Pensadores como um dos trabalhos intelectuais mais influentes nos dias de hoje em estudos visuais (Sage, 2008).
GIULIANA BRUNO is the Emmet Blakeney Gleason Professor of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University. Professor Bruno is known for her research on the intersections of the visual arts, architecture, film and media. Her new book, Surface: Matters of Aesthetics, Materiality, and Media, published by the University of Chicago Press in 2014, will be translated in Chinese. Her seminal book Atlas of Emotion: Journeys in Art, Architecture, and Film (Verso, 2002) won the 2004 Kraszna-Krausz Book Award for “the world’s best book on the moving image,” and was named a Book of the Year 2003 by the Guardian. Her recent book, Public Intimacy: Architecture and the Visual Arts, published by MIT Press in 2007, has been translated in Europe and Asia. For Streetwalking on a Ruined Map (Princeton University Press, 1993), a journey through modernity and cultural memory, she won the Society for Cinema and Media studies annual award for best book in film studies. Bruno has contributed to numerous monographs on contemporary art, including Isaac Julien for The Museum of Modern Art (2013), Jane and Louise Wilson (2004), Chantal Akerman (MHKA, 2012), Jesper Just for the Venice Biennale 2013 (and MAC/VAL, 2012), and exhibition catalogues of the Museo Reina Sofia and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She also writes frequently on art and architecture for international books such as Automatic Cities: The Architectural Imaginary in Contemporary Art (Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, 2009), Space (MAXXI Museum for 21st Century Arts, Rome, 2010), and Ruins (MIT Press and Whitechapel Gallery, 2011). Professor Bruno lectures at universities and museums internationally, including, recently, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, the Dia Center for the Arts, the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern and the Louvre Museum. She is featured in Visual Culture Studies: Interviews with Key Thinkers as one of the most influential intellectual working today in visual studies (Sage, 2008).
